North Kyushu University & Kyushu Institute of Technology
From Thursday, November 6 to Saturday, November 8, we visited private companies and university institutions in Okinawa with members of Kyushu Institute of Technology for the purpose of supporting career contents as part of the SPRING project.
On the second day, Friday the 7th, we visited the University of the Ryukyus and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST). At the University of the Ryukyus, Professor Takemura, the R&D leader in charge of the COI-NEXT land-based aquaculture project, explained the research being conducted in the project, the significance of land-based aquaculture, and the movement toward its commercialization. In addition, we visited the Aquaculture Technology Research Center, where we saw the mealybug cultivation site. It was very informative for us to learn about the cutting edge of research and development that will change the future of aquaculture in Japan, such as the use of renewable energy to make electricity consumption more sustainable.
The first half of the tour at OIST consisted of a tour of the facilities and an overview, and the second half consisted of research presentations by the students, which provided a valuable opportunity for the students to learn about OIST's vast facilities and buildings. In addition, the exchange between students from different fields of study was conducted mainly in English, and although the time allotted was limited, the exchange was very active.
Afterwards, students from TMDU and Kyushu Institute of Technology, who had arrived at their accommodation, presented their research and results to each other and shared their visions for the future.
